Q. Are Alvord ISD Police Officers REAL Police Officers?
A. Yes. All Alvord ISD PD Officers are licensed peace officers. They are certified by the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement, and commission by the Alvord ISD Police Department. All Alvord ISD PD Officers have extensive experience in law enforcement.
Q. Is the Alvord ISD Police Department open 24 hours a day?
A. No. The Alvord ISD Police Department, hours of operation are Monday through Friday from 7:00 am to 5:00 pm. Our personnel work campus events and district athletic events after normal business hours. After hours and weekend emergencies are forwarded to the Wise County Sheriff’s Office (WCSO) through a Memorandum of Understanding. The WCSO will then forward the case to the AISD Police Department for resolution. Through the MOU, the WCSO also provides dispatching and emergency communications for the AISD Police Department.
Q. Can Alvord ISD Police Officers make arrests off campus?
A. Yes. They have statewide authority to make arrests both on and off campus.
Q. What role do district Police Officers play in school discipline?
A. None. Police officers are not disciplinarians and should not be used as such. Our role is to investigate violations of law and ordinances in accordance with the authority and power specified by Board Policy. While police actions/classifications may result in the assignment of disciplinary consequence, discipline is the responsibility of the campus administrators.
Q. What is the jurisdiction of the Alvord ISD Police Department?
A. Board Policy CKE (LOCAL) specifies this jurisdiction as: “…all territory in the boundaries of the district and all property outside the boundaries of the district that is owned, leased, or rented by or otherwise under the control of the district and the board that employ the peace officer or security personnel or that enter into a memorandum of understanding for the provision of a school resource officer.” Education Code 37.081(a)
Q. Can an Alvord ISD Police Officer issue a traffic ticket?
A. Yes. Alvord ISD Police Officers are authorized to issue traffic citations upon their discretion. Alvord ISD Officers will monitor speed in school zones, on or off school property.
Q: What court do I go to if I get a ticket?
A: Tickets issued by Alvord ISD Police Officers will be adjudicated in the Justice of the Peace Courts or Municipal Courts in Wise County, depending on the location of the violation.
Q: What happens if I don't pay my ticket?
A: If you do not appear in court or pay your fine, the court may issue a warrant for your arrest. Any police officer may arrest you once the warrant is issued.
Q: I need to speak with someone regarding an issue that occurred on my child's school bus away from their campus. Whom do I call?
